Dragon's Back Passage

The Dragon's Back is one of Hong Kong's highly celebrated natural landmarks, a dramatic ridgeline that runs across the southeastern tip of Hong Kong Island, plunging steeply and unapologetically into the South China Sea. A majority of the people hike it. You will see it from below, from the water, the way dragons were always meant to be viewed: with distance, with perspective, and with full reverence. The Dragon's Back Passage is Cruivantara's adventure-forward single-day offering, built for guests who want the thrill of Hong Kong's rawest coastline without surrendering the comfort of a world-class vessel beneath their feet.

The Experience

Departing from Shau Kei Wan, a neighborhood whose identity has been shaped by the sea for centuries, the route turns immediately south and east, away from the urbanized harbor and into the waters that line the island's dramatic, largely unseen underbelly. The coastline here is raw and uncompromising: sheer volcanic rock faces drop directly into the sea, caves punctuate the cliffs at irregular intervals, and the ridgeline of the Dragon's Back looms overhead in vivid, nearly theatrical contrast to the city you departed just an hour ago.

The vessel makes two anchor stops. The first is at Big Wave Bay, where the geography is as bold as its name suggests and the surrounding hills form a natural Amphitheatre around the water. The second is near Cape D'Aguilar, Hong Kong's southern point, remote, windswept, and carrying the kind of quiet that only the edges of things possess. On the return leg, sea conditions permitting, the captain brings the vessel close to the cliff faces for an encounter with Hong Kong's geology that no hike, however well-trodden, can replicate.

Onboard

An adventure-style picnic lunch is served on the open deck with the coastline as your backdrop. A marine biologist joins the vessel for the Cape D'Aguilar stop, offering insight into one of Hong Kong's important marine reserve zones. Optional guided kayaking launches at Big Wave Bay for guests seeking an even closer encounter with the cliffs. High-speed stabilization technology ensures comfort throughout, even in open-sea conditions beyond the harbor’s shelter.

Appropriate For

Adventure travelers, outdoor enthusiasts, marine nature lovers, and active families.

Cruivantara Note

Kayaking is an optional add-on at Big Wave Bay, subject to sea conditions and advance booking. Guests who take it rarely regret it. Guests who skip it sometimes do.
